The tariff commission bill was discussed at some length in the House yesterday. Among the bills passed by the Senate was the House bill to appropriate $450,000 to supply a deficiency for printing.

A horrible tragedy occurred yesterday forenoon in West Somerville, in which Edward R. Prescott, a retired merchant, murdered his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Russel. Violent domestic troubles caused the affair.

In the legislature yesterday, the metropolitan police bill was the occasion of a long debate.

Resolutions were passed favoring national education, and bids for State printing were asked for. - In the Senate, reconsideration of the elevated railway bill was refused.

Foreign. A recent circular by Mr. Clifford Lloyd in regard to the duty of self-protection in Ireland was the cause of unusual warmth of expression in the House of Commons yesterday. Mr. Sexton insisted on Mr. Forster causing its withdrawal. - More serious anti-Jewish riots have occurred in Russia with loss of life and of much property. - In Russia an imperial order has been issued prohibiting military men from publicly delivering political speeches.
