CORRESPONDENCE.

TO THE EDITORS OF THE CRIMSON : -

I NOTICED in your last issue an editorial inviting, on the part of the architects of the new Gymnasium, suggestions about that building; and it is in accordance with that invitation that I venture to bring forward the following.

We hear that "our main principle is never lost sight of, namely, to have plenty of room for everybody." And we see, with pleasure, that a proper place for exercising will be afforded to the Crew and Ball Nine. A large room is also spoken of where the Athletic Association intends putting up tablets, with the cases of the Ball Nine and the flags of the Crew. Rumor also says that there are to be twelve bowling alleys. It is not my desire to do anything but approve of these plans; but as suggestions are asked for, I should say why not have a racket court? Of course there are many difficulties in the way of it, but I think the idea worthy of some consideration. If it is urged that a great deal of space is now being taken up by the proposed plans, I would venture to say that some of it might be better employed than in twelve bowling alleys. There are comparatively few who care for that sport, and most of those are Freshman.

Many students have expressed a desire to have a racket court. It is obvious that it would be an additional inducement to exercise. And, during the months when the weather is too bad to be out, it would supply to a great extent the place of out-door sports. Those who are acquainted with rackets know what a fine game it is ; and if it is once introduced it is sure to be as popular as any sport we have. The very novelty of the game would insure its success at first, a success that its real worth would afterwards not fail in maintaining.
