EDITORS DAILY CRIMSON: - Do the men here in college realize their priveleges in having distinguished clergymen at Appleton Chapel morning after morning to conduct prayers? Very few realize, perhaps, the significance of the presence during the present week of Dr. Brooks, who is just on the eve of sailing for Europe. It is not small thing for as busy a man as he to give half of every day to Harvard College, where so many men are ignorant of the fact that he is here among us and taking, as a Harvard man himself, a deep and daily interest all the men as a whole. It cannot be indifference, for the actual count, day after day, proves that the percentage of men, as regards the total enrollment of the college, who are present in chapel, is larger than that of the populace of our large cities. Still, were Dr. Brooks so widely known throughout our country and abroad, to visit us from a far distant city, the chapel would be crowded each morning. Does it not look like "A prophet, etc,' again? What is the cause of this small attendance? Cannot each man, that now makes a practice of disregarding the college bell at eight-forty, make it a point to attend chapel for the rest of the year? It may seem a small matter, and also may seem a disagreeable subject to many men. Yet facts are facts, and in this particular case the facts are: Two many empty benches stare Dr. Brooks and the other University preachers in the face each morning of their respective turns among us.

PORTORE.
