SERENADE.

WHERE the ivy twineth

Round the castle wall,

Dark and silent shadows

On the turrets fall.

At the casement window

Beam the brightest eyes ;

From the velvet sward beneath

Strains of music rise.

Upward, on the silent air

Words of magic float;

From a snowy hand above

Falls a perfumed note.

What is more romantic

Than a serenade ?

Would I were a cavalier

Singing to a maid.
