TO THE EDITORS OF THE CRIMSON: -
I AM unfortunate enough to have several courses which require constant attendance at the Library, and, in common with many others, have found considerable difficulty in attending to my work there with any degree of comfort. The seats provided are so few that on several occasions I have not been able to procure one; and as my work lay among reference books, which are not allowed to go out, I have been obliged to postpone what I had to do. The same difficulty has been experienced by several of my acquaintance, and no doubt by many others. Since the Library has received so large an addition, I am sorry that I cannot call it also an improvement. There is no reason why a reading-room of sufficient size should not be provided. Whatever beauty the building ever possessed has been sacrificed to making it larger, but apparently it is not yet large enough. Though I do not wish to find any unnecessary fault, I cannot pass by in silence two discomforts with which all who use the Library must be acquainted: the ventilation is often very bad, the atmosphere close and impure; and most of the chairs which are provided are such as adorn an Irish kitchen, but are wholly unsuited to a fine Library. Let us have good air, good chairs, and plenty of them.
