THE WAILING-WALL AT JERUSALEM.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

THE glory is departed out of Judab;

The sun that lighted her knows her no more.

Silenced is the voice of her thanksgiving,

Ashes strew the threshold of her door.

Weep for the ruins of her sacred glory;

Weep for the shadow cast upon her face;

Weep for her beauty, stained with tears of sorrow;

Weep for the scattered households of her race.

Dark were the clouds when her day was ending,

Veiled was the face of heaven mourning her.

Blessed be they her memory retaining,

And doubly cursed be all those scorning her!
