University Crew Work During Week

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The work of the University crews during the week has been confined chiefly to the machines. On Tuesday the second and third crew were out and yesterday at three were on the river. Captain D'llingham, who has not been rowing for the past two weeks because, of an injury to his hand, will be back in the boat Monday. In addition to the men mentioned in Monday's CRIMSON, F. G. Macomber, Jr., who stroked the Senior crew in the class race, and T. Lindsley '05 have been taken on the squad, and all rowing in the third boat at stroke and No. 2 respectively.

In a short brush yesterday the crew of the Union Boat Club beat the first crew by about a length. The boats rowed down stream from the Harvard Bridge to the Union Boat Club. As the Union crew was fresh when it met the University crew on its way down from the boat-house, the outcome of the race cannot be set down to the discredit of the latter. A brush between the second and third crews was stopped by the breaking of a seat in one of the-boats. The third crew was slightly in the lead at the time.

Yesterday's orders were as follows:

First crew--Stroke, Filley; 7, Duffy; 6, Smith; 5, Lawson; 4, Shuebruk; 3, Flint; 2, Ober; bow, Swaim; cox., Green.

Second crew--Stroke, Brownell; 7, Bowditch; 6, Pleasanton; 5, Meier; 4, Foster; 3, Johnson; 2, Shepard; bow, White; cox., Swan.

Third crew--Stroke, Macomber; 7, Gill; 6, Montgomery; 5, Richmond; 4, Switzer; 3, Gardiner; 2, Lindsley; bow, Durfee; cox., Chase.
