8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
The course for the training of the members of the Business School, principally for those who are enrolled in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps, in the duties of quartermaster will be given in that period between May 29, when the Business School closes, and the opening of the summer camp of the Training Corps. During this time, if there should be no war, the activity of the R. O. T. C. will be suspended because of the final examinations taking place in the College. The course will cover a period of three weeks and will be under the direction of Captain W. G. Bowen, who is assistant to Captain Cordier.
The purpose of the course is to so instruct those men who will obtain commissions in case of war that they will be able to handle all questions in accounting, the making of requisitions, the handling of supplies, and on other such matters which may arise, in an efficient and intelligent manner. It is not proposed to have the men who take the course behind the fighting line, but merely to fit them for special service in that work which is especially connected with the duties of a quartermaster.
Professors W. M. Cole '90, P. T. Cherington, and W. J. Cunningham will give the instruction; each one will take an hour a day. Professor Cole will take up accounting and finance, including payroll matters; Professor Cherington will handle the question of supplies and subsistence, and Professor Cunningham will deal with transportation. Captain Bowen will lecture on enemy organization as an introduction and will supervise and co-ordinate the course.
