President Conant's new book, an enunciation of his belief in comprehensive secondary school sand junior colleges as the key to better education, will reach the retailers February 9, according t its publishers the Harvard University Press.
Entitled "Education and Liberty, The Role of the Schools in a Modern Democracy," the book forwards a ten-point program by which a democracy can provide full cultural background for its citizens.
In line with earlier statements, Conant proposes to cut four-year college enrollments to half their present total, restricting those who want only a general education to intensive junior colleges.
Preceeding the release of "Education and Liberty," the University Press will publish "General Education in School and College," a six-man committee report on the feasibility and the necessity for greater integration of secondary and college education.
