CHANGE OF LAWYERS CONTINUES RIOT TRIAL

HUNDRED ATTENDED IN HOPE OF FINAL VERDICT

A lengthy peroration by two of the defendants in behalf of several of the others forced the continuation of the "riot" trial in Charlestown District Court until this morning, when the defense will complete its case.

Although the rapidity with which the innumerable attorneys for the defense had handled their witness, promised the disposal of the case yesterday; the perpetual shifting of lawyers occasioned the continuation. The counsel for several of the defendants, in the person of one Paul Ogus, complained during his summing up that he had not had sufficient time to prepare his date.

The testimony of witnesses was cleaned up early in the afternoon and the attorneys, representing each of the defendants began their pleas to Judge Sullivan. Ogus dwelt, for the most part, on the case of Miss Frazier, who was picked up late in the afternoon of the demonstration as she was proceeding over the bridge. The defense introduced the conflicting testimony of police officers and attempted to prove that Miss Frazier was conducting herself peaceably when she was arrested.

More than one hundred people had gathered in the expectation that the verdict of the court would be rendered. At 4.45 o'clock, however, at the request of the defense, the court was adjourned until today and the 21 defendants filed out of the courtroom. Today, at 9 o'clock, the court will reconvene, the defense will conclude its case, Captain Daley, attorney for the state will present his final statement to the judge and the verdict will be rendered.
