The Army and Navy have issued an appeal to the Red Cross for 4,000,000 pints of blood during 1943, Norman H. Davis, chairman of the American Red Cross, announced in a recent report. This quota represents more than three times the amount which was given to the armed forces during the past year.
In order to comply with the request for 70,000 pints of the life liquid a week which has been set as a preliminary goal, Davis revealed that additional centers and mobile units were being set up wherever possible.
Stating that the Army and Navy request for increased blood donations proved the efficiency of plasma in treating burns, wounds and traumatic shock, Davis called on the public for "even greater support" of the donation program and urged colleges, business and industrial groups to cooperate.
Appointments can be made by calling the Red Cross Blood Donor Service, KEN 9060, or the Cambridge branch, 53 Church Street, ELI 7800. Blood can be given every two months, and the process is painless, as veterans testify.
